so lot of peoples before me asked the same question that which one is better, AMD FX 8120 8 core or Intel Core I5 2500K quad core, but I am asking it again because I can't find any similarity of their reason of buying a new processor with my reason. I want a processor mostly because of Application Development and Video and Photo editing. The softwares I am going to use are Sony Vegas, Adobe Premiere Pro, Android SDK, Windows Phone SDK, Tizen SDK, QT SDK, Adobe Photoshop, Corel Video and Photo editors so which one should I choose? Do I really need a 8 core processor to use this all softwares. I will also use my PC for gaming, mainly games such as gta iv, Crysis 2, call of duty black oops, nfs hot pursuit, max payne 2 etc. And I don't have more money to buy any other processor costs more than this. So please answer.

i'd go with fx-8120.....will do well in video editing and stuff.....plus its significantly cheaper than the i5-2500K

In case u want a cheaper i5, and don't plan on overclocking, get the i5-2500 (no K)

I could not disagree more with $hawn on this one I have experience with trying to decide between those two a month ago actually and I talk to a consultant and there is no reason to buy amd unless on a budget. I got the i5 2500k as you can see below and it is faster and has integrated graphics if your card ever fails it has a super fast 3.3 ghz clack speed, faster than the fx-8120.

GTX 660 is reportedly around the $300, so never-mind.

Is the 6870 a good match for the i5 2500k.

My case has alot of room left I can send a pic if you need it.

With the kind of software you run having more cores is better then having more powerful cores. So i'd grab the FX chip and do some overclocking. Granted if you can find a 2500K on the cheap, then i wouldn't hesitate to go that route as it's still overall stronger then anything AMD has been putting out.

In a less threaded environment i'd say the i5 2500K without a doubt. And if you were to ever consider the 2600K, then that would be even better especally in a multi-threaded environment.

But with what you do and if i can only pick from those two CPU's then i'd go for the chip with more cores (FX 8150).

few questions:
1.) what games
2.) resolution
3.) budget

Batman Arkham City
Batman Arkham asylum, I want to be able to run most games on pretty much the highest settings on 1920x1080
My budget for a graphics card is like 175 dolllars in the 6870 price range.

Why nvidia over radeon??

For Physx, though i'm not sure how good a GTX 560 can handle Arkham City on High settings with Physx tacked on at 1080p. But it's a great card overall, still a good budget card.

+1

with the GPU debate settled, how much for cooling.?

Depends do I need a new psu if not then 50 dollars is liquid cooling an option for than price if not what cooler do you reccomend

So you would recommend getting a graphics card then the liquid cooler right? I also need to know how to install that liquid cooler.

To sum up this thread the i5 2500k is better than the fx 8100 it is a great chip for anything if you have a decent video card. Get the i5 2500k and a decent gfx card! :D

For me, I will choose the fx-8120 as well as own-PC builders. It's more worth it and why the heck you wanted the integrated graphics? It makes me LOL!

A "Consultant"? LOL If you mean the guy who makes 8 dollars an hour at MicroCenter, I'm not impressed.

Now I'm not saying go out and buy the FX CPU, but to act like its not a viable alternative at a cheaper price is pure folly. As far as MicroCenter rates, yes the 2500K is cheaper there, but then again so is the 8120
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml...

BTW, I hope it wasn't the same consultant who told you to get a CoolerMaster power supply lol. As far as integrated graphics, video cards just be failin' every day out there? Its like the Chocolate Frogs in Harry Potter, video cards only got one good jump in them anyways!, seriously lol. Video cards don't fail that often, and if they do, most people own more than one computer. If I wanted to know if my 550 TI died, I'll just push Max out of the way and take the GTX 460 out of his computer, problem diagnosed. Contact Zotac to do an RMA on my card, problem solved. lol.

In all seriousness though, clock speed =/= better performance. Otherwise why would the i3-21xx have stronger core performance than 4.2GHZ FX-4170s? As far as your experience, talking to a consultant, even if it is someone qualified is not a substitute for actually using the product yourself and judging whether or not it can do what you need it to do. You need not have fancy certifications and college degrees to figure this out.

The 8150 is identical to the 8120, the 8150 is just clocked higher, since both of them are unlocked and overclockable, there is no real reason to pay more for the FX-8120, I would just overclock the 8120 to meet, or exceed the 8150's default speed.
