Hello, i have a cheap compaq presario laptop. it has only 2gb of ram. I like to play minecraft but it lags hard. I only get about 15ish fps when i have all the settings turned down. I was wondering if there was any way to boost my fps? like a graphics card or external hard drive maybe? Please help. But please dont say buy a new computer either because thats not an option. thank you

What gpu is it running amd or nvidia? update to the current drivers and then see if the performance increases.

If its a laptop, there's nothing you can do with the video card. See if you can upgrade to 4gb's of ram. If you can't ur SOL. Buy a new laptop.

Which exact model of the presario is it? It could either be ddr ram or ddr2 ram or even ddr3 ram.

Minecraft use Java to run. Try update your Java to latest version. If you use 64-bit, install both Java 32 and 64-bit.

honestly there isn't anything you can do, I personally would qualify that as a netbook not a notebook :3

laptops aren't as upgradeable as desktops, so swapping video cards and cpus is either very limited or simply impossible

That laptop looks like it supports DDR3 1066/1333. So buy a 2x2GB or 2x4GB, choose from these:

Guys, he play MINECRAFT! The laptop can handle it just fine.

Trust me, it can't, it lags on my grandmas celeron D (single core at 3+ Ghz) shes got on board graphics but so does he, also minecraft runs fine on even 1g of ram, its the way that java addresses space in that game. It only pulls it when it needs it, and I for one haven't gone over 700mb of ram usage.

@OP have you tried mods that help with lag, like OptiFine, or OptiMine, etc

pentium 4 with igp and hyperthreading and 1gig of ddr ram can't run minecraft at a good fps. 10fps with all settings turned off.
