Will XP Pro SP2 recognise the quad core conroe? I know it supports dual procs but I don't know if it will support a quad core proc?

Thank you.

Ummm...

You prolly can run a quad core on Home XP.

Pro XP will allow 2 physical sockets, so you could run (edit . o O (not 16) 8 cores.

So when they talk about multi cpu, they are referring to phyical sockets for CPUs. So your not limited to the amount of cores in 1 physical CPU package.

Do you have to add any patches or will an XP Pro SP2 updated to the minute recognize all those lovely little cores?

Out of the box XP Home, Pro, or MCE will detect as many cores as you can put in each socket. The difference is how many sockets each version supports. Although all 3 version can utilize multiple cores, they are not optimized out of the box for more than one. Here is a link to a good guide that improves multicore performance in XP.

BTW, CaptRobertApril, you are probably the funniest guy on this board. I like your sense of humor.
