I have an ATI Radeon graphics card. Is this the problem?

No... need more information... type of card and OS.

you should be able to go into your graphics properties and tell it to "extend" you desktop... or in ATI properties "enable" the second monitor.

Yeah I tried both of those to no success. THe card is an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570.
The laptop is a Sony VAIO. The os is Win 7 64 bit.

Does the extra monitor says "no signal"? Do you have the monitor set to the right input, i.e. VGa, DVI, ect.

Some laptops require a key combination to enable to second monitor.... like holding the 'Fn' key and hitting #8 or something(it is usually in Blue on the Key)..

Are you at least able to get picture on the second monitor...?
