I have a Canon 20D and a G6 and the image quality is excellent in both
cameras. The Canon G6 fits my hand well and uses the same batteries and
CF cards as the 20D so it's a natural for me.
If you want to believe George then buy a piece of Junk Sigma. Sorry for
the negative comment but George never offers much positive information
up here except to bash Canon.

I just bought a G6, moving on from an Oly2020Z. A few things that
struck me as missing from the G6 that would have been nice to have
- filenames, a silly system with folders and discontinous numbering.
The Oly has both date and filenumer in the filename, makes life much
easier
- The Oly was continously adjusting exposure and always shows (unless
disabled) the values of shutterspeed and aperture, the G6 doesn't show
any (or only the manually selected values) until the actual picture is
taken (or the shutter pressed halfway). This is pain because in
aperture or shutterspeed mode you are pretty much in the dark whether
one is getting a reasonable setting/exposure
- The focus can be a bit slow at times
- When you press the shutter the LCD seems to 'flash'. Not sure what
that is
- The G6 feels decidedly plastic. I guess I will get used to it
eventually.
- I can imagine the camera can be turned on quite easily by accident.
It would have been nice if an automatic lens-cap sensor had been
included so that it cannot turn on when the lenscap is attached.
- the ISO values are wacky (see dpreview). It doesn't really matter in
a sense, but still it would made much sense for Canon to get it/print
it right.
That being said, the images are wonderful. The reason I bought it was
that it had the best reviews in it's class, it has the widest aperture
(f2.0), it has timelapse function, ir remote control is included,
better moviefunction, can have lensadapter (I bought the lensmate 52mm,
better and less expensive than the Canon one), has build-in stitch
functionality, it has a build in ND filter, etc.

Some, but fortunately not all ng's have a George Preddy. Compared with smh
in alt.comp.periphs.cdr he's actually not all that bad. Not good or needed,
but not all that bad.
