Hey guys! This is my first PC build and I could really use your advice.

Approximate Purchase Date: Within the next two weeks

Budget Range: $450-$600 Max w/ shipping and before rebates

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming: League of Legends, MMO's(not on ultra-high, just want decent mid range FPS), Basic Recording and Music Production, Web Browsing and Videos

Parts Not Required: keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: NewEgg

Country: I live in America

Parts Preferences: I've been stuck between AMD and the i3's for budget muscle...help?

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe

Monitor Resolution: Using a 32" 720p HDTV to start connected with HDMI

Additional Comments: As stated earlier I'm not looking to play the newer games on Ultra High graphics or anything I will mostly be playing League of Legends which isn't nearly as demanding as the new games, but I would like this build Semi-Future Proof incase I decide to upgrade eventually.

CPU: i3-2120 3.3Ghz

MOBO: ASRock H61M

Drop to the i3-2100, use the money to get a decent GPU, maybe a 6790 or 6850

Cooler Master Elite 430 $50
Hitachi 500GB 7200RPM $80

Kingston HyperX 8GB 1333 1.5V $40

Total: $573 w/o rebates and shipping

The 2100 is exactly the same but the 2120 has better onboard gfx, which u dont need.

Save $10-20 on the CPU with the 2100 and use that to get a 6870

So wil a GPU with an AMD chipset be compatible with the i3?

Reply to technologic

H61 mobo isn't future proof - it can't upgrade to ivy bridge (coming out in April). I'd go with an AM3+ board at that level. Or drop to the i3 2100 and use the money to get a Z68 mobo that can take IB.

Yes, you can get an AMD or nVidia GPU with either Intel or AMD CPUs.

definitely go for the 2120...it's cheaper than the 2100 and has a faster clock.

go for this combo with the dvd burner... you basically get the dvd burner for $5!

the i3 21xx is a good choice, faster than anything AMD has in that price range for gaming. if you want to play at 1080p resolution dont go less than a HD6850.

this is a good motherboard for the price and the featureset, in terms of futureproofing, spend more money on the motherboard with good upgrade options so you don't have to gut your whole system in a year and a half:
ASRock Z68 PRO3 GEN3 LGA 1155 ($109) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813157279

if you're gaming on a 720p tv, it's basically as if you were gaming on a 20" 720p monitor. there's no difference with the size. in this respect, you don't have to spend $200 on a videocard.
under your budget a 6770 or 6790 would be more appropriate.
6790 ($105 after MIR) - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814161377
6770 ($87 after MIR) - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814102940

another thing - this case is the same as the one you posted but $5 cheaper... not sure why haha, but saves you money!
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6811147060

nice solid 500w corsair powersupply, should do the job for ($42 after MIR)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817139027

memory - 8gb corsair ddr3 1600 ($28 after mir)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820145324

hard drive 500gb seagate ($84)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6822148767

with the i3 2120 combo, that brings it to $542 after mail in rebates. perfectly under your budget.

By geofelt, 1 hour ago:

To answer your question, an aftermarket cpu cooler is not necessary with a 2100. For $5...
