AMD is an epic fail with the FX chips. Even the older Phenom Thuban chips are better.
FX-8150 (Flagship) vs i5 2500K
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/434?vs=288
The 2500K destroys the 8150 in nearly ever benchmark. Especially in Efficiency.

As for the build I'd suggest checking out my $900 build here:
http://www.squidoo.com/electronicandmore
Gives you a SSD, Future proofing for SLI/CF, and you get a board supporting PCI 3.0 if you use Ivy Bridge.
