Second build, want to do it right!

Forum Systems : Homebuilt Second build, want to do it right!

Hello all,

This is going to be my second computer build, and I want to do this one right. First build runs, and runs well, however I did not do the research I should have. I do have somewhat of a budget, but its not horribly restrictive so slight price increases for better components are not out of the question.

My plans are to have this build be a gaming computer, with room to grow and overclock later down the line, and I would like some feedback/opinions/suggestions. (using microcenter links because they are close, and I have found they often have better pricing/sales than newegg)

CPU: http://www.microcenter.com/single_ [...] id=0354589
MOBO: http://www.microcenter.com/single_ [...] id=0373371
PSU: http://www.microcenter.com/single_ [...] id=0334161
HDD: http://www.microcenter.com/single_ [...] id=0349595

Already have the GTX560 from my previous build that I will be using for my GPU, already have my DVD-R and case as well. I will be using the cooling that comes with the i5 running it at stock speeds until I finish the watercooling setup I am planning.

The only thing I am not too sure on is the motherboard, have read good reviews of it, however my experience with motherboards is limited to ASUS. I also cannot seem to find any of the RAM on the QVL for this mobo available on either newegg or microcenter.

Thanks in advance!

What would be the benefits of going with the ASUS over the ASRock?

Pci-e GEN3, better build quality, better reliability

I'd suggest swapping that PSU - the GS series is a mid-tier PSU and doesn't get the highest remarks. Try this one as it's a much better brand (not that I'm suggesting Corsair isn't) and has a higher certification rating: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817151096
