Radeon 5870 squealing

My brand new Radeon 5870 begins the commonly defined as "annoying" ear-splitting squeal whenenver I turn the power on; I thought it was the power, but even plugging in two PCIe/molex doesn't fix it; everything I can find online says that the card needs two 6-pin PCIe for power, which I currently have plugged in, but the card itself has room to accept a total of 14 pins; a 6 pin and an 8 pin. Plugging in two six pins didn't fix it, but I don't know of any molex/8-pin PCIe's. Is it likely that's the problem, that I need a 6 and an 8?

you need to plug in all the power connectors on the card, they are there for a reason.

yes there are 8 pin connectors out there

use the 8 pin and 6 pin on it

If it's not power related then it's a fan issue.

You must have a different model of the 5870 than i do. I have one that requires only 2 6 pins. I think the one that takes the 8 is the eyefinity edition with 6 hdmi ports in the back

mightymaxio: It has 6 DisplayPorts, not HDMI's
fuggles: That's basically what i did in the end; splice in two more pins and attach them.
