I have a Sound Blaster Live! Bulk version. I wanted to connect the digital out from my DVD to the sp/dif in on my card, but found out that the connector was missing. Creative says this is because I have a bulk version.
My question: If I solder two pins on the place where the connector should be (the holes for the connector are already there, filled with tin) can I use the SP/dif in, or are the chips on board also different than the normal live! board?
I have both the retail and OEM versions at home. I will take a look and see if the OEM version is missing chips or connections that the Retail has. I know the SPIDF connector is not present, but i will look for other differences.
If you find that you can't add the pins, you might want to invest in a decorder card that does offer the digital out or invest $34 in the Hoontech SB DB-III. reviewed at Hardwarezone.com
