I need to purchase a new graphics card (or two) that will run Skyrim and SW:TOR comfortably (50+ fps) at 2560x1600. I have been running a 2x5850 Crossfire setup until one of my cards died on me the other night. My system specs are as follows:

i7-950 OCed to 4.0ghz
Asus P6X58D-E
CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W Power Supply
CORSAIR DOMINATOR 12GB (6 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

Preferably I would like to keep this upgrade under $600. I am not opposed to upgrading the power supply if needed but I will need to keep that expense in mind. I have had both AMD and Nvidia cards in the past and I do not have a particular preference of one over the other.

Any advice on what I should buy is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Your best bet would be the GTX 580 if you are looking to max out graphics to ultra settings. Based on the following HardOCP review, at 2560x1600 the GTX 580 was able to get a minimum of 31FPS, a max of 71FPS, and an average of 52.5FPS.

A single 580 will NOT run BF3, or Skyrim, at very high or ultra and get 50+ FPS (which is what you want) at 2560x1600 res. No way, uhuh, sorry to disappoint you.

You'll need 2 x 580, 590, 2 x 6970, or 6990 to run a 1600p display properly. I have a 6990 and a HP LP3065, and they are a good combination.

Agreed, I had to run 2x 580's in SLI to max BF3 on full ultra in multiplayer and avoid going under 60fps @2560x1440. It typically runs anywhere from 80-120 fps on average, in some intense situations drops to 60's. You need to add a LOT of rendering horsepower when you get up in the 1440 or 1600 res range.

Try it with one, if it isn't doing it for you just add another one, for me the game ran significantly smoother once I added the second.
