alright im working on cables inside my case, then tieding them up and will be finished soon. I'm working with the asrock extreme 3 gen3 mobo and antec green pro 520 psu(something like that). And i connected my older hdd with the fat thin SATA cable, so I only have 1 cable plugged into the hdd. Do I have to the other smaller then cable plugged in too, because the psu doesn't have one.
It only has the big sata cable

EDIT: Beginning builders idiocricy.... feel free to close thread.. sorry.

Whatever you do there must be two cables that connect to the hard drive. One will go to the motherboard and the other will go to the power supply.

If you don't have a connection to both devices then it won't work.

If you can't accomplish this with your current equipment, you may need to buy some sort of adapter cable.
