adaptec 2100S problems

i have a adaptec 2100S raid card with 4 quantum atlas 10k II 9 gig hdd's on it in win2k std. server. to me the riad is slow. my older adaptec aaa-131u2 with 4 9 gig u2w 10k ibm driver seem to be faster that the 2100S with the u160 quantums. anyone have any clue as to why?

oh btw both raid setups are in raid 5 and with 32mb dimms on the raid cards.
