Which graphics card to go for?
I've to choose from MSI HD 6850 Cyclone OC edition and MSI GTX 460 HAWK. Which one should I go for? I'm limited by my existing power supply so I'm not sure if I can get anything beyond that. Please help
Doesn't matter actually. If you want CUDA or PhsyX then you choose GTX 460. If you want Eyefinity and Higher FPS then you would go for 6850. I have heard that MSI Cyclone is pretty good cooler. And what means by 'OC' is it has a higher core speed then other. So if you are getting the non OC version it is OK, you can overclock it too.
So in conclusion get anything that is cheaper.
Oh yea Just one more thing, make sure they are both compatible with your system.
Jack35345 said:What is the minimum power supply that I would need for a GTX 560 Ti? Btw is it true that a GTX 460 HAWK version when overclocked, performs similar to the ref HD 6950 at stock clocks?
the minimum power you need to handle 560 ti is 500w..
and for the 460 hawk story..idk..haven't heard yet
Oh yea, how much VRAM does the GTX 460 have? I forget to ask it before. The 768MB version is the 'lite version' just like the 6790 for 6850. If it is 1GB then it compares well to 6850.
Maybe the GTX 460 HAWK will be faster at OC speed compared to the 6850 at stock. But 6850 at stock can be OCed in the same clock rate, if you do, they will be really close.
Last thing: You need at least a decent branded (like corsair, antec, seasonic) at 500W to run 560Ti.
I know from tom's review of the EVGA GTX 460 FTW (On The Bench: EVGA GeForce GTX 460 FTW) that an overclocked gtx 460 can perform similar to a GTX 470 or 6870. And now since we have the GTX 560, a 460 clocked to 800 MHz could touch the 560s performance as well.
Though i seriously doubt you'll hit 6950 performance with a 460. You could however reach it with a 560. Note that the GTX 560 is basically an overclocked 460, but more efficient, so it consumes similar power.
I know the resolution is low, but was just an example. for the full story, see: Overclocking And SLI Benchmarks
Hey there I found a user who want to sell a GTX460 OC edition. Here is the thread http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/335999-33-n460gtx-m2d1gd5-price
