No operation can be performed on Wireless network while is has its media disconn

I am trying to connect to my son's wireless internet with my own laptop. I can't get it to connect - I have tried to "renew IP address" and it doesn't work. I also got a message when I went to Start Run, etc etc

"no operation can be performed on Wireless network while is has its media disconnected"

I am able to connect to my own wireless internet at home on same laptop.
