Hi there, I'm new here, so, I'm not too clued up on some things.
I have decided to build myself a gaming PC, however, as my HDD's from my old PC have all my data, my OS and everything on, I want to transfer them into my new computer. I understand that by doing this, upon startup of the new computer, I'll get an error 'Windows cannot start due to recent hardware change' or something like that. I was wondering how I can get around this with no loss of data.
Old PC Specs:
Windows 7 Professional 64bit
AMD Athlon 64 X2 (dual core CPU)
2GB DDR2 RAM
2X HDD's
PNY GT220 (1GB GPU)
My new PC will have:
Windows 7 Professional 64bit
AMD Bulldozer FX-8120 (octo core gpu)
16GB 1333MHz DDR3 RAM
The same two HDD's
The same GPU
did you use an OEM copy of windows on the old PC? if you did then you can't move the OS. end of story.
You can try to uninstall all the drivers, move it to the new PC, and boot. if it doesn't a repair install may get you some where. and you can fightveitb it and it may eventually sort of work.
but really its a new PC and you should do a clean install. back up your data or use the file and settings transfer thingy, and reinstall. and if your old PC was using an OEM copy of windows you'll have to buy a new one.
