Gents,

Just built a new system was looking for some opinoins

MB: ASROCK|Z68 PROFESSIONAL GEN3
CPU: i7 2600k
RAM: G.Skill 4GB x 4
HHD: 5 Total Drives
x1 120GB SSD (Used for Operating System)
x1 60GB (Scratch Disk)
x3 3TB Seagate Drives

Trying to use it for two different things, Video Editing and VMs.

My questions is this, my OS is on the 120GB SSD, so I've got 70GB left, will I see a drop off in performance if I put Adobe Premier Pro on the 3TB drives vs the 120GB SSD?

Adobe also says Premier Pro requires "RAID 0 for uncompressed" which means I can't setup my drives in say RAID 5 correct?

Also curious whether I should install VM Workstation on the 120GB drives or on the 3TB Drives. I'm told that having VM Workstation and OS on the same drive reduces performance, but, is that true if the HDD is a SSD?

I don't know, but I can help you ask the right questions.

The fact that a certain program occupies the same drive as another has nothing to do with performance. How those programs USE the drive is another matter.

Is the program written in such a way that it frequently access the drive in which it is stored, or will it simply load into memory when enough is present?

Is the program a 64-bit program that can access memory beyond 4GB?

These things are easy to asses actually, on your own. You can monitor drive usage, and see if it's a bottleneck.
