Computer won't turn on, suspected PSU

So last night my friends computer went into sleep mode, and this morning wouldn't turn back on. At all. Now, he has had some issues returning from sleep mode before. Whenever I go to hit the power button, nothing happens at all. Back when i had issues with my PSU, everything at least twitched for a second and then nothing happened, so i knew it was a short. This one gives me nothing, no led's turn on, nothing moves, no nothing. So, since the power supply is what causes the machine to at least turn on, and its not even getting THAT far, is it definitely the PSU, or can something else be causing it to not turn on?

PSU or motherboard! Have you tried resetting his PSU by unplugging it from the wall for a few seconds?

ya, we actually just popped it (PSU) out and looked inside, the coils are fused and melted together.

Make sure you replace it with a quality unit not a piece of crap that will end the same way! What brand was it?

the crazy thing is it was a corsair 600. which to my understanding, is definitely not a piece of crap. I had the same one in my old rig and it worked for a long ass time before i sold it. i think we just got unlucky and got a bad one.

You did not void the warranty and open it up?
