How much storage space do you need? I assume you do not need a seperate graphic card and can use one on the mobo? Do you use a gigbit connection to your router or is it wireless?

wireless. onboard graphics. with the new celeron i think.. can you give a spec?

try to find a second (used) pc to buy then instal unbuntu on it!
or try to boot your actual pc with an ext. hdd in wich you installed linux on it, then you can dwld anything you want withaut spending much money at all!
in this case you can chose with what os you want to work in a particular time without having 2 pc's running!

Hmmm...do you have access to used systems locally? You don't need much for what you are doing so a dual core with enough ram and storage is it (plus OS).

oh and for the one saying that I should buy an old laptop, i already got 1 and 1 asus g73 or something but i want to build a pc

The specs for this system aren't going to matter, you are just going to want low power consumption. I'd look at the Intel Atom or AMD E-350, the Atom consumes less power (~8W) but the AMD has far better performance while consuming around 18W max. I'd say the AMD is more versatile since it will be able to handle HD video and basic gaming.

This would be a tiny system with ultra low power consumption:

MSI E350IS-E45 AMD E-350 APU
Crucial 4GB (2 x 2GB)
2 x SAMSUNG Spinpoint M8 2.5'' HN-M101MBB 1TB 5400 RPM
SAMSUNG 8X Slim Internal DVD Burner
StarTech SLSATAADAP Female Slimline SATA to SATA Adapter with Power
Antec ISK 300-65 with 65W PSU

Total - $434.93

That even has decent graphics and room for a low profile TV card so it could double as a HTPC. The power consumption even under full load would be around 25W, if just downloading torrents it would consume a lot less.

you say it sucks up electricity maybe you should rent a seedbox it downloads fast and it runs 24/7 so lots of seeding and you get no electric bill in england you can rent them for £10 so you could probably find one in indonisia for 142,789.075 rupiah if the conversion thing was right
