6970 Crashing at 83 degrees c

Hello,
I'm about to rma my 6970 its crashing as soon as it reaches 82 degrees celsius. Also got a bsod 0x00000116. Do you agree I should rma it.

Also did a rollback..fresh install of the drivers.. fresh install of OS...moved the gpu to a different slot..still crashing computer at 82 celcius

Card ran perfect for 8 months...december started and it began doing it.. I still have warranty

Is it a reference design card ? Could you link your GPU ?

I would definately take it back for RMA if it was working perfectly for 8 months, now that you still have warraty on it.

also if they return me the same model gpu HIS 6970 i was wondering if i could use MSI afterburner with that card instead of CCC.. because ccc automatic fan control never really went up as the temps went up. or if HIS has a tweaking thing like trixx or msi afterburner, your help is most appreciated <3

IF they return to you the same card, i'd suggest spending more money on an after market GPU Cooler.

I never messed with gpu coolers.. could you point me in the direction of a compatable one?

Aftermarket coolers are great for silent and cool operation. but if you don't mind noise just ramp the fan speed up with msi afterburner.

My reference card is flashed and oced but still doesn't get above 65 or so. i use decent earphones so the noise doesn't bother me.

Yah noise is no problem at all for me. So msi afterburner is compatable with a HIS 6970?. Thanks a lot for ur guyses help I can't choose a best answer cuz there all great!

yeah msi afterburner is compatible with most gpus, 69xx included.
After you enable it, you can set a custom fan curve and make it run at login. I don't know what I'd do without it.
