Just wanted to know if I were to upgrade from my 5870 to that of a GTX 580, do they get so hot that 4 x 120mm case fans on the side of my case as well as your usual exhaust fans etc would not be enough to keep it sufficiently cool, when gaming a 1920 x 1080? I have read they can get very hot, and as I am not as technical as I would like, is this true?
They can get hot just like any other card but certainly not even close to what you listed. The reference cooler is good. If you're concerned about overheating then just set a constant fan speed of 50-60% so the temps next exceed the 90C mark...anything close to 100C is very bad.
Also, if you're planning to buy a new one..just wait till the 7000 Amd series due in Feb..it might match the performance of GTX 580 for a lower price.
Unless your case is completely terrible, I think you are going to be just fine. Sounds like you've got plenty of fans in there. The 5870 can get pretty warm also, but typically there aren't heat problems with either when the case is adequately vented. Is there something strange about your case that makes it atypically hot inside?
Thanks to you all! My case in an older Coolermaster 830 Stacker NVIDIA edition with 4 x case fans in the door. I was hoping this was enough? And would there be a big performance difference between these cards?
