I'm getting a new build and I'm kinda stuck with the processor choice. I am going to micro center tomorrow so I am available to really great deals. My choice is the i5 3570k and the i3 2100. I understand the i3 2100 is probably ample power and will fulfill my needs but microcenter is presenting a very good deal. And sometimes I like to overkill because it might allow a couple more years for usage on my pc.
I can get a i5 3570k + Asrock pro4-m motherboard for a total of $270 including tax. The current deal is buy i5 3570k and get $50 off a z77 motherboard.
That's $190 for the i5 and $60 for the motherboard before tax.
I can get an i3 2100 for $90 and an average motherboard for $90. That will be about $200 including tax.
The question is, is $70 worth the performance increase? I can afford both but money is hard to come by now days so saving anywhere I can is nice.
With this computer, I plan to run a 6850/6870 and play diablo 3, SC2, and BF3, run FRAPS, and just every day stuff.
