I seem to have lost the ability to open an internet page
after I have opened the first one. When I browse, if I
minimise a site & then go to open another, keeping the
first one open, it closes as soon as I click on another
site. What is the setting I need to modify to be able to
have several pages open at once?

Right-click on your Desktop Internet Explorer icon and select:
Properties > Advanced and uncheck "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts",
then click "apply".
