Hello,

I was wanting to connect a GTX580 to a HP Z800.

The GTX 580 requires 1-8 pin and 1-6 pin power connector.

There are 2, x16 slots on the HP motherboard, each of them has a stout, 75 watts delivered to the slot.

If I was installing a Tesla, I would only need the 6 pin because it would get power from the MB.

The GTX doesn't seem to like socket power, only wants the 8 pin.

Anyone know if there is a way to "reroute" where the card gets it's primary power from? meaning a jumper switch or a setting on the card?

More about : z800 pcie slots 75watts

With a card like the GTX 580 its going to need power from all three sources. Even if you it had PCI-e power and power from the 8 pin it still wouldn't run correctly.

Most motherboards don't supply 75watts at the PCI-e slot.

Tesla C2075's and Quadro 6000's use more power than a GTX580 and they do not require the 8 PIN for full unaffected operation.

I have a z800 running with a Gigabyte GTX 580. And I had the same problem. Just add 2 Pins with "Ground" for the Empty ones, and it will run very fine !!! robtys ( from Brazil )
