Hello,

if i have a Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller and a 1394 net adapter in my machine do I need both to be enabled in order to connect to the internet

1394 refers to the firewire port on your computer. Most OS's report it as a network adapter, which it can be, but its really more USB than network. You can plug in drives, cameras, etc...

For internet access the 1394 can be disabled, but won't hurt to leave it enabled.
