Need gaming type pc for music software

Hello,
I'm considering building a pc to keep costs down and to use for creating music, specifically Pro Tools. I need at least these things according to the guy at Sweetwater: Intel Core i5 or i7, 4 GB ram minimum (8 is better), NVIDIA video card only, and plenty of USB slots. And Windows 7.
Never done this before, but not afraid. Some suggestions would really help.

Budget?

i7 only make sense if the software multithreads...check with them to see if it does. If not then the i5 is fine. If want to OC then the 2500k if not save ~$30 and get the 2400. From there a case with front panel usb + the mobo usb on rear, and the rest if really a cost issue.

Apparently it would multithread, so looks like the i7 would be the way to go. I'm trying to stay under 900, and wondering if I should buy or build, if building would save some money.

amazing how often you can get a prebuilt for less than building it yourself. take a shot at an i7 build and we'll give feedback
