LAN issues

I'm trying to play Borderlands over LAN with my friend. We're having trouble seeing each other's games. I'm connected (windows 7) directly to the router. Lucas is connected (windows xp SP 3) through my friends laptop (vista) via network bridge. I don't know if this would cause some troubles, but neither of us can see each other's games when we host. Please help us out here.

you both have to be connected to the router. the laptop (vista) acts as a separator and won't let you see each other.

You said you're using a "network bridge". Is this truly just a "bridge", or is it really a "routed bridge" (as in ICS)? If it's the latter, that's a mistake, you only need the former.
