I7 920 problemo

hey guys and gals


I have a i7 920 cpu that I cannot get to work (tried it on 3 seperate motherboards), there appears to be some thermal paste on the cpu side (where it makes contact) does anyone know of what I can do about this?

I dont want to eat the cost on thism and if I can bring it back from the dead, I would like that

If it is shorted with paste you need to clean it! Don't get your hopes up though dead might remain dead.

Clean the contact surface "gently" with some of this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100010
And use the purifier gently afterwards.
And keep your fingers crossed that it wasn't a metallic thermal paste.
