GEFORCE 7800 GT DRIVERS- HELP! VERGE OF INSANITY!

Can someone PLEASE explain to me why there are infinite versions of drivers for this card, & I never see the same one twice! I am re-installing my system from scratch, on a computer I built myself, so i know what it is I have- but I can't fathom what is going on with the driver packages: There is the 94.24, 191.07, 182.08, 178.03, 81.98, 93.71, 91.28, 84.21, I have about 35 more...I know a few are older, or OS specific, etc, but there are at least 30 of these things (literally, I have them all downloaded) that claim they are for my card with my system. I know some are OS specific, some are the manufacturers, etc, I'm looking for an explanation for this madness! Every time I look up drivers I see a new number attached to these things. & now we have the new 285..... I SEEK A FULL EXPLANATION, EDITION LIST, UNDERSTANDING OF THIS MADNESS!!!!!!!! HELP ME, PLEASE!
FYI: MY SYSTEM:

ASUS A8N-SLI (NON DELUXE OR PREMIUM) SOCKET 939
AMD ATHLON64 3200+ (REV.E6)
NVIDIA GEFORCE 7800 GT OC GRAPHICS CARD (SLI CAPABLE, BUT i ONLY HAVE 1 CARD INSTALLED RIGHT NOW)
1 ULTRA ATA 250 GIG
2 SATA'S- 150, 100GIG (NOT running raid)

I am trying to optimize for high use of Photoshop, Illustrator, & similar apps
I usually leave this computer OFFLINE ALWAYS- but I found I had to update when I got my new Adobe programs. My system still thought it was 2006, & hence crashed. It WILL go offline after I get it up and running again.
