Howdy. I've enjoyed this printer, but after about 200-250 4X6 prints, it now
says that the "ink is running low" on the yellow (6) cartridge. Two
questions:

1) How long do I have before I the cartridge is totally out and printing
stops? I ask this because with my old Epson Color 400 Stylus printer, the
cartridge light starts blinking but I still often get an additional 40 pages
of print out of it. I'm assuming that's not the case here. So, about how
many 4X6 photos should I be able to print?

2) Just curious -- is this the usual cartridge to go first (yellow)? Should
I expect the other cartridges to run out quickly?

Hmm. I will have to take a look at the Canon printers!!! I wish I could
get 200-250 prints before running low on my printer.

Hi,

I have the IP3000, never counted how many more you get but it is quite a few
from when the low ink warning is displayed, if its urgent I would have a
another cartridge standing by. When it says the cartridge is empty, it
pretty much is, where as with Epson (providing its not a chipped
cartridge) you could take it out and put it back in again and it would
normally be good for another cycle.

As for your other question I am not sure, with me it is normally the cyan
cartridge but I think depends on what you print.

I have had this printer since it was first released, and love it! For
me, the magenta went first, then yellow, then cyan. I do a lot of
"people" photos, yearbook-type things for our school.

Both Costco and Sam's Club sell a 3-pack (one of each color) for 28.95
or so--it is good to keep a set on hand! I look at the cartridge, and
when the ink is half-way down the fiber "stuffing," I replace it. (This
ability to actually see the ink levels is another plus to this line of
printers.)

A "major consumer magazine" recently rated this as a best buy--I've
been through five or six inkjets in the last three years, and don't
think you can beat the cost/value of this one!

Cheers!

Yes, we are very pleased with the printer.

BTW, now the magenta is low too. I do have an extra set. I'm going to go
until one cartridge is completely out and then replace both.

You get a warning when a certain cart is low. You get a second warning
when the cart is empty telling you to replace it. If you continue
printing until it is dry (dry not empty) then you risk burning the
printhead rendering it useless. The low warning comes on when the
liquid portion of the tank is void of ink. The empty happen after a
time when the sponge is nearing the end. When the sponge can no longer
supply sufficient ink the print head may burn.
