Such motherboard are socket AM2/AM2+

I know its not an ASUS board, but the AsRock N68 CS UCC is a cracking little board. It supports AM3, has DDR2 and DDR3 RAM slots (both can't be used at the same time of course) and the FX version has support for AM3+ CPUs. So you have a board that will use 4 different socket CPUs. I'd say its pretty darn good for those who only do little upgrades.
