I have a LAN, with XP pro, DSLVerizon ISP, westell modem, D-Link604 router,.
I cant remember (to many senior moments) if I want to bypass the router, just plug the pc into the modem,(ethernet) if I need to make any changes?
Any help appreciated.

What changes do you want to make??

Standard setup is: Coax from wall, into Modem, Modem into PC.

With router:

Coax from wall, to modem, modem to router, router to PCs.

If you want to change your router settings, you need to know the IP of your router and you can log in without moving any equipment around.

Not quite sure what changes you want to make though..

Access your router by typing the IP address into IE.. ex: 192.168.1.1 and it'll prompt you.

If you want to bypass the router's Firewall, you can log into the router and using the DMZ, you can put the IP address of the computer you want to bypass the router, in that option.

So if PC 2 (IP of 192.168.1.102) wants to be outside the firewall, you'd enter that IP into the DMZ of the router.

It sounds like you just want to connect the computer directly to the modem, its simple just connect the cable.

If your IPS uses DHCP then you should be fine, or if you have a static IP address then you will need to configure that in your computers network settings, under TCP/IP properties…
