About $700 gaming rig, no idea what I'm doing.

I'm looking to build a new gaming desktop, but have no idea where to start. I've been ripped off with buying a pre-built desktop too many times before, so that's out of the question. I've looked for a few days for a build for under $700 but every one I find is outdated. If someone could post up everything I need that would be fantastic. I have a case, no need for the extras like keyboard, mouse, monitor. I do have a 32" 1080p TV that I use for a monitor if that has anything do do with the build. Much thanks in advance.

Approximate Purchase Date: within the next few weeks.

Budget Range: $700 after rebates and stuff.

System Usage from Most to Least Important: gaming, videoediting/3d rendering

Parts Not Required: Keyboard (thought I do only have a $10 one), mouse, monitor, case. Shouldn't need an OS.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Any website as I'll probably be buying the parts individually from different websites or local stores.

Country: US

Parts Preferences: Not picky.

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: maybe

Monitor Resolution: 1920*1080

Additional Comments: harddrive is oging to have to be at least 1TB. I'm constantly deleting/uninstalling form my 250g to make more room.

  2. You will want a full size ATX mobo if you want SLI/CF as an option. I would go with the Asrock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3, it is only $120. Also, do you need an OS?

if gaming is your #1 then i would say go for the 6870. If you don't plan on overclocking, then the i5 2500 (not the 2500k) would be a wiser choice.

Yeah I'll need an OS but I'm not including it in the price. I'll probably end up picking up another copy of Win7.

Would QuietPC's build work pretty decently without overclocking anything?
  6. ^ It's OK you can do better though.

    Just get windows here:
    http://www.softwaresupplygroup.com/microsoft-windows-7-home-premium-64-bit-oem-branded.html
    It'll cost less, you'll get a Quad (i5 2400) and a 6870 which is a better GPU for gaming.
