HD 6850 vs HD 6870

I game at 1080p and have a 6870 (although mine is oc'd to 1000 core/1200 memory).

If you are loking to max games at 1080p, I wouldn't go any lower than a 6870. From my experiences, I find I can max 90% of games with the 6870, and close to high settings on games such as Metro 2033, Battlefield 3 and Crysis 2.

I think if you are not going to oc your card, you should prob get the fastest card you can afford.

My rig is for animation, photo editing and video editing.

In that case, no or very little difference. Those apps will benefit from a powerful CPU.

Yes there is quite a difference, worth the extra $25.

Nvidia's closest competitor is the GTX460, but they are a bit hard to find these days. Also, it's a bit slower than the HD6850.

The amount of heat a card produces depends on the cooler. From the various cards I've used over the years, the 2 Radeon cards were running noticeably cooler. It could be something, or just random.

My CPU is i7 2600 w/o the K.
