Do i need to apply new thermal compound after i took off the cooler

HI guys. I want to know if i have to apply the thermal compound on the cpu cooler after i take it off since i'm replacing my motherboard i have to take it off so that i can remove the cpu from the socket. I have a coolermaster hyper TX3 and currently it has pre-applied thermal compound which it had when i bought it. So do i need to remove the thermal compound and apply new or will it work without reapplying?

Yes, you absolutely need to completely clean everything off and reapply. The reason is that reusing what is there will create air pockets and cause higher temps.
