this is 99% true but there are games that can use more then 4 cores.

bfbc2 is one. http://www.sweclockers.com/recension/13224-intel-sandy-bridge-core-i7-2600k-core-i5-2500k/13#pagehead
heres some data on the 2600k being better then the i5 more often then not.

bf3 is rumored and probably is the same as bfbc 2 uses more then 4.

You'd need new RAM and a new mobo as well. Depending on what you use, your games will be probably 40% faster (and this is an educated guess.) If you upgrade your gfx card to something more robust, you'll get a WAYY faster gaming experience. Toss a small SSD and more RAM into the mix and you will be straight up gaming, son. This is mostly true. I am sincerely trying to help you but I'm kinda jacked on ambien right now so take what I say with a grain of salt. Good luck!

As mentioned above, For a gaming rig, you are better off with an i5.
If you're planning to do some heavy overclocking(4.5Ghz+), then i5 2500k should be you choice. No/Moderate Overclocking, then i5 3570k.
Pair it up with a good GPU, & you'll have a fantastic gaming rig. :)

Ok well the guy at my shop recommended the 2500k so maybe i will check a few reviews. Also i will be adding 8 gigs ram .Can you recommend a good cpu cooler to get the i5 2500k or i7 3770 to 4ghz+

Max Payne 3 Benchmarked
(i5 2500K / i5 3570K should support a graphics card very similar to the i7-3690X used in the review)

better of with a i5??? no, your not better off with an i5 rather then an i7. an i7 will be faster but your overall gaming experience will be better if you get an i5 and use the extra 100 dollars for a better GPU. thats what you mean. i hope.

frosty tech is not reliable for cpu cooler benchmarks

Was that a paradox?
That's exactly why one would recommend an i5 over i7 for a gaming rig. HT gives little to no significant advantage to games.

frosty tech is not reliable for cpu cooler benchmarks
I know that too, hence I said "Frostytech is a good place to start your research."
Frostytech has listed almost all the cpu coolers, ergo a good place to start. Then one can jump to Google for more/better reviews etc.... :)

ah fair enough about frostytech.

i was pointing out that a i7 WILL be better then an i5 but overall spending more money on a gpu will help more.
