So I'm having this problem here. This is what I have:

Windows 7
8800gtx
55" sony 1080p
dvi to hdmi cable

So when I right click and go to resolution, windows thinks that my native resolution is 1360x768, but still gives me the option to choose 1920x1080. When I choose 1080, the screen is slightly darker, and my tv lets me know that I'm in 1080i. Why not 1080p? It can't be the gpu, this relic is capable of higher resolutions than 1080p.

What TV do you have? Are you sure it's 1080p and not 1080i?

Yes I'm sure. It's less than a year old, and when the ps3 is hooked up it displays in 1080p. I don't know the model number atm, but I'm sure it's 1080p

The tv tells me it's displaying in 1080p. I know the games are only played in 720p, but you're not really suggesting that the main screen and blurays are in 720p? This is beside the point, I just want my tv to display in 1080p from my graphics card...
