Hello,
I'm upgrading my motherboard with an AMD Phenom 820 to a board with an Intel i7. I read that this should be a straight ahead swap as long as the HD controller is standard AHCI 1.0 or such. Mine says: "AMD AHCI Compatible RAID Controller"
Does that mean that I will have to instal the OS?

If the controller is in AHCI or RAID mode, you can expect "Stop 0x0000007B" (if running Windows) when booting. Depending on the OS, it will probably boot if the controller is in IDE mode. You could then install Intel's drivers and make it work in AHCI mode instead of reinstalling the OS. Knowing which OS you have would be useful.
