New gaming PC build, $950 budget.

Hi,
I am looking into building a cheap gaming pc that could also work well for school. I have never done this before so I am just looking for a little help from experienced people like you guys. Please share your opinions, it would help heaps.
So far the only problem I can see is the FX 6100 CPU. I have read that it is not great for gaming, and I should go for the Phenom.
Thanks for reading and any help is greatly appreciated.
