Down to the wire and trying to decide which cpu is the best bang for the buck, now and later.
Its between the 15 2500k, and the i5 3570k. It will be going into a asrock z77 extreme6 mobo. Lil worried about the ivy and heat issues.

On another note, I am thinking about ordering from newegg to see if any sales happen on monday.

Any comment , advice, etc would be appreciated

Will be running stock fans, but im ordering Arctic Cooling MX-4 to help out a bit.
thx

Solution
I have the 3570k @4.5ghz (1.28v) and the Z77 Extreme6 with the CoolerMaster Evo 212 and max temperature during stress tests is 76C; max during normal gaming is 61C. It idles at 30C.

From what I understand the Ivy is slightly faster clock for clock but the 2500k runs cooler.

My previous CPU was a AMD Phenom II, so I can't compare to the 2500k, but I'm very happy with my current build and it's quite a bit faster. The ram I used is in my sig - the Vengeance ram does actually just fit under the Evo 212 on the Extreme6 (all 4 slots populated).

The Extreme6 seems like a great board, and from my usage so far some of the unique features (such as the XFast systems) actually work quite well.

Battlefield 3 runs at Ultra settings (except that AA is off and set to FXAA in the control panel) @1080p completely smoothly, and that's with a GTX460.

I'm not sure which ram is better, but from the picture it looks like the Ripjaws are slightly shorter than the Vengeance series, so you'd probably have a bit more clearance if you get a cooler later. Just have to make sure whichever cooler you get will fit. There is also low profile ram available if you want to be safe.

Also, having 2 sticks means they will go in the 2nd and 4th slots from the CPU, so the slot closest to the cooler will be empty, giving you plenty of clearance even with tall ram. If you add more sticks later though you may have to worry about clearance issues.

Of course 8gb is plenty for gaming; I got 16gb because I use editing software as well.

Sorry if that was rambling a bit.
