PSU advice for 6870 Crossfire

Phenom ii x4 965 @ 3.8ghz
Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3
XFX 6870
8GB(4x2GB) DDR3 1333mhz
60GB SSD
750GB HDD(7200rpm)
6/120mm and 2/230mm case fans.

I'm looking to get a new PSU to support a 6870 crossfire and I've narrowed it down to these 3.I was wondering which one would be the best.Personally I really like the XFX one because it has all the PCI-E cables needed and I really don't want to have to use molex adapters. My budget is less than $100.

Corsair TX650

XFX Core 650

If anyone has a suggestion towards a different PSU please don't hesitate to mention it.

  1. cooler master gx650 best option mine using same brand gx750 for sli gtx580 i've overclocked both my cards and running perfectly.
  2. I like the XFX because it has 4 PCI-E connectors. But this is just a personal opinion and others might have their own opinion. Good luck on buying your new PSU anyway :)
  3. Yah I'm pretty sold on the XFX one. I'm just wondering if their are other PSU's that would be good that I haven't thought of yet.

After the MIR then one is looking really good too.

That would be surely better if you can do MIR. :)
  5. You already decided to go 6870 x 2 ?
Can't you push your budget a little more ?
  6. What do you mean? I already own a 6870.

This one is actually looking to be really good as well but i'm a little cautious because of the multiple rails.I'm reading Tom's review of it right now.I'll tell you what I think.

I knew you wanted to CF HD 6870 with another or HD 6850, that's what i meant.
Again, Can you push your budget to get a more quality branded one ?
  8. Well that Cougar PSU seems to do well in the tests but it didn't get a Tom's reccomendation.

I am planning on going for a 6870.This was the one I had in mind.

The 6870 I have is a reference design and it's BIOS are locked so I cannot O.C. it.So I don't see the need to get a higher end 6870 like a Twin Frozr because I can't O.C. it anyway.I figure I'll just go with another XFX one just in case something goes wrong I still have the lifetime warranty with it.
  9. I'm talking about the PSU :D
Can't you pay a little higher to get a quality branded PSU ?
  10. NZXT 650W

If you don't mind using Molex, i personally trust using it with this unit and using it generally with the 6870s.

    Seasonic 620W

Finally I would go fro the Cougar SX 700, HEC makes most of their PSUs as a small market segment products with no fantastic materials, but the efficiency is pretty good and nothing bad at all reviewed on this unit.
  11. I figured those were the top ones for my budget. No I can't go over $100 and i'm depending on the rebate.

Alright so out of these 2 which would you say is the better...

    XFX 650watt

    Cougar 700watt

  12. I'm really having a hard time deciding between the XFX and Cougar. They each have something I like, the single +12/v rail and the modular cables.I just wish only one of them had both.
  13. i really think you need a bit more power to safely run a crossfire setup..
  14. XFX got total score of 9 by johny, no reputable reviews on the cougar except the one by toms and it proved reliability. I would actually go with the Cougar.

Your budget is your issue, i was going to recommend the Antec HCG 750W before hearing that you rely on the debate.
  15. It's not the power that worries me I like the Cougar because it's modular but the multiple rails bother me.
  16. Quote:
The XFX unit is the better unit.

    That's your opinion, not mine.
And i'm not speaking regarding how many wattage needed, the 620W version has 2 x 8 pins only and Purple doesn't want to use Molex. I'm speaking about Quality and Materials, Antec, Corsair, NZXT are more famous brand names than XFX when it comes to PSUs.
  17. Jonnyguru & Hardwarecauncks didn't state seasonic part like they stated in OCZ and Antec PSUs. And who told you that they are tier 1 PSUs ? Tier 1 PSUs only get the full score 10, like the NZXT, Silverstone, Seasonic...

And any cheap unknown PSU could score 9/10 if it was efficient.
  18. Yah I've also heard that Seasonic makes XFX's PSU's.
  19. I went looking over at TigerDirect and I found this. What do you guys think?

  20. And OCZ make PC Power & Cooling PSUs
    http://www.tomshardware.com/news/OCZ-PSU-PC-Power-Cooling-power-supply,13940.html
It's not a reference, each PSU has the good and the medicore.
  21. Modular, quality branded, got the 5 egg for the good feedback, but it still does have 2 X 8 pin connectors.
    $105 after shipping

  22. Yah I just noticed that.Guess i'll keep looking.
  23. That's exactly what you need, but $20 above your budget.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817116014&Tpk=NZXT%20650W
  24. Alright I forgot their was a rebate on the XFX card so I've about $20 extra to stretch and I think i'm gonna get this one so I can finally have both, modular and single rail.

  25. Looks good to me.
  26. Thank you so much guys for all your help.
