Okay I'm not sure if i put the title right, but I have a 2tb hdd on my desktop that I am going to take out and get an external network enclosure. Im getting an ssd + i have a 250gb hdd laying around for the OS/apps/games. Now I wanna put my Movies/Shows/Pics/Videos etc.. on the network drive to be accessed for my desktop as well as laptop. My question is I sometimes go to a friends house to watch over the house while everyone is away. I have an ssd on my laptop so I cant put my movies etc on it. Is it possible to access movies from home to a different network? what would i have to do to enable that? and possibly only able to download the program VLC and another to access these movies. i guess its more virtual then anything. any links that explains so would help or anything.

This allows your laptop to connect into the home network while your out and about - you access everything at home as if you were there, just slower because your at the mercy of your internet connection's speed. It wouldn't be fast enough to stream a HD movie, but you can copy it to your computer and play locally, then delete it after.

Your internet's upload speed from your house is too slow.

you are better off snagging a portable usb 2.5" 500gb or so laptop drive and taking it with you.

for instance my roadrunner turbo has
20mbit max download this usually is about 1.5-2.2MB(megabytes) a second

but the upload is only 768kb or under .1MB/sec

you need about 4-6mb (0.4-0.6 MBytes/sec) for streaming a hd movie.

I might try this semms good thanks.

okay, not sure I put any info on my internet speed but okay. Second I have three external enclosures and 500gb aint enough. I would prefer not to lug around an external enclosure. I have 1tb external, 2x 250gb externals, 1x 40gb external. All have different things and would like to put 1x 250gb into my comp to put my games while i have the ssd, and use my 2tb for all the other stuff to put on the network and have it to run all my movies etc... While I'm at my cousins and/or friends house.
