For SkyRim...on a budget

Hi all,

Trying to decide between GTX 560 Ti....R6950.....R6870.

Keeping in mind I'd like to play SkyRim, and not break my wallet. Can it be done?

  1. 560 Ti/ 6950= ~$250

    6870= ~$170

I personally would go with the 6870 for Skyrim on highest settings on medium-high res.
But if you can afford the $250, go for the 560 Ti. It's a lot quieter and pretty much the same as the 6950. Post the rest of your specs so that your CPU isn't bottlenecking your GPU. Tell us what settings you would want to play on with the res.
  2. Thanks for your swift reply!

I'm building a system. Regarding my specs:

    i5 2500K
    AS Rock Z68 Extreme 3 Gen 3
    Corsair Vengence 8GB
    Zalman CNPS9500 AT Heat Sink
    Corsair Enthusiast 650W PS

I can afford the $250. Ive read the MSI GTX 560 Ti is a good card as well. Any thoughts? Regarding settings - I have no idea what to play with, I'm kinda new to this. Haha. Sorry. But I will be playing on a 42inch plasma TV.

Get the msi twin frozr ii 560ti, it can be overclocked to 1ghz and perform at gtx 570 levels if you have good case airflow.
  4. I just read that the sapphire R6950 can easily be overclocked as well. I just found the 2GB model - would you recommend that over the 560 Ti?

Take a shot with that, i believe many of them can be unlocked to a 6970 also!

Yeah, when you want to unlock the shader cores. Here is a link to an article on how you can do it: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/316974-33-radeon-6950-shader-unlock-instructions#t2368661
  7. Yeah, thats what I meant. Unlock. Thanks (amuffin and refillable) for the advice, and the links.

I'll prob go with the Sapphire 6950 2GB. The Sapphire is $50 more than the msi twin frozr ii 560ti - would you say its a better deal?
  8. looks like we are both in the same boat. LOL
