Hey,

Need suggestion in buying graphics card. I made my decision to buy new GTX 550 Ti. Then I got an offer of buying about two years old 4850 (512 MB) at a cheaper price. I would like your suggestions over this ?

Both cards are from Palit

Cost of new 550 Ti is INR 7500

Cost of 2nd hand Radeon HD 4850 INR 4500
4850 has 9 months warranty left with it.

Actually I am confused because in Graphics Card Hierarchy Chart (http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/fastest-graphics-card-radeon-geforce,3085-7.html) 4850 is ranked 3 levels above 550 ti.

No Man, Look again, it's ranked one level down.

NO, you are reading the chart wrong!

ok, sorry for the blunder !!
it I confused 4850 X2 with 4850..

thanks for pointing it out :)

I guess now I will stick with 550 Ti

Is it possible for you to get a radeon 6850 or gtx 460?

I was just saving few bucks

Palit 550 Ti : INR 7600
Palit GTX 460 : INR 9600
MSI 6850 : INR 9800

I thought 550 ti would be sufficient for me :)

I use my PC just for playing games during weekends. AFAIK 550 Ti is sufficient to play BF3 which I think is the most GPU intensive game available.

Please correct me if I am wrong. I don't have any budget limitations. I am just being frugal ;)

Right now my display support only 1366 x 768 through VGA connector.

But I plan to buy HDMI cable which will enable me to go to higher resolutions.

Till what resolution 550 Ti will be sufficient ?

the 460 is good but might not be worth it for you if it costs so much more than the 550ti. at least here the 460 is only a few bucks more than the 550 but with a 30% price increase, it might not be worth it if you are sticking to 1366x768.

The difference in the prices he provided is 26% more for the GTX 460. The GTX 460 is over 30% faster than the GTX 550 Ti and that difference only grows if you are willing to overclock. It is certainly worth the extra money if he is going to move to a higher resolution but yeah, at 1366x768 either card would be very good so it wouldn't really matter.
