Phenom II x4 965 OC vs FX r

Hey guys.

I have been looking around and haven't been able to find this anywhere, so I decided I'd ask it now.

AMD Phenom II x4 965 BE vs AMD FX 4100 BE, only with both of the CPUs overclocked.

From what I've read, the FX 4100 can overclock to MUCH higher clock speeds, but I have also read that the Phenom is the better CPU all round. So, with this in mind, what is the better CPU for my budget gaming rig?

  1. From what I know about AMD CPUs (Not alot), is that half the cores for the FX series aren't true cores (Think hyperthreading, but rather than being entirely virtual, there is some hardware as well, making around a X1.8 boost rather than a X1.2 per core), so I'd go with the 965 BE. That thing looks sweet. It'll play Battlefield 3 with an equivalent graphics card at 1080P @ 60 FPS just fine.
  2. The old Phenom II X4 965BE is the better of the two for gaming, with or without an O/C. But we're talking marginal differences.
