Is the cpu compatible with the motherboard?

So I just got some recommendation from members from this board and just order these new motherboard and cpu, but i just notice that the cpu watt usage is 125 watt while the supported watt for the motherboard says 95. Is it compatible still? if not what should i do :S

More about compatible motherboard
  1. According to this http://www.asrock.com/mb/NVIDIA/N68C-GS%20FX/?cat=CPU no, it's not supported (although a FX-4130 which is 125W TDP IS, but it appears to be the only 125W TDP CPU that's compatible).

    Heres my desktop specs:

    http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=FQ424AA-PB-R

Everything is the same except for the grapic card, which I current have an ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 series.

To upgrade my desktop a expert here recommended me to get these items and said they were compatible:

ASRock N68C-GS FX AM3+ NVIDIA GeForce 7025 / nForce 630a Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

CORSAIR Builder Series CX500 V2 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply

    G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-10600CL9D-4GBNT

    AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ965FBGMBOX

ASUSTeK COMPUTER NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 ENGTX260/HTDI/896MD3/A

Since the motherboard and cpu is compatible and the cpu cant be return is there any other motherboard that will be compatible with my computer spec and the new cpu and psu and what not?

    Thanks for the help
  3. Try updating to the latest BIOS, if it doesn't work try to return the CPU to newegg and get this one
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113007

But I'm not sure about the RMA with newegg. I don't live in the US or Canada I don't know the policies.
  4. the cpu is not returnable it can only be replace. newegg however allow a standard return policy for the motherboard. So any suggestion for another motherboard?
  5. Well, I'll say this: Try it first. It shouldn't work (at least not like it's supposed to, even with a BIOS update, since it doesn't really support 125W TDP CPU's, but you may get lucky).

Otherwise, just find a good AM3+ board that supports 125W TDP Phenom II CPU's like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157319 or this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128521
  6. Okay you can replace it with the one I linked above!

I don't get it. Do you have a prebuilt HP machine? If so how is the motherboard gonna be compatible? HP uses BTX boards and has special designs.
  8. I bought it from bestbuy so don't really know all info. I just asked around here for upgrades for my parts and reckon-uk said all thsoe parts were compatible and what not. so any advice is helpful for me

Well, he was right in one respect that the socket was compatible, but I'm guessing he didn't check TDP compatibility. Anyway, just look at what I said in my last post above. Something to try and 2 mobo's that I KNOW will work.
  10. so the two above is definitely compatible with my pc to right? Since ilysaml said something bout not compatible with prebuilt hp machine or something.
  11. Yes, HP and Dell use BTX motherboards, yours is an ATX,
Make sure that it will fit in your HP machine before you make any purchase.

Also, if you don't wanna change the motherboard you can replace the CPU with the 955 BE 95W I linked above.

Well, they're compatible with the 965 at least. I can't speak as to whether or not they're compatible with the case (although looking at the case dimensions, they should fit, but I'm not sure about the screw holes lining up).
  13. Okay from running cpu-z it tells me that my mother board model is a NARRA3 made by Pegatron corporation. From that info can u guys tell me if it fits?
  14. OK, it's mATX, but I actually think a normal ATX mobo might work. In any case, this board fits ALL of the qualifications you need and it's mATX http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128458
  15. Also check the I/O shield outputs are the same or not, or you can simply remove the I/O shield.

I would imagine the new mobo should come with an I/O shield, so as long as the one in the HP is removable, you should be good.
  17. I'm trying to keep my price range around the same as the old motherboard i ordered. will this mother board work? its the same brand and stuff just a lower version i think.

The 965 is on the support list, so it should be fine. I just don't like the chipset.
  19. what does the chipset do exactly? im putting in a grapic card for it so does chipset matter?

It'll be fine for the 965, it's just older an not as good for Bulldozer CPU's if you ever want to upgrade (although they're supported).

For somehow the size was a little bit different than the regular ATX boards, that's what I have experienced with my Dell XPS.
  22. so the chipset does affect my processor though o.o?

Not for the 965 it doesn't. It just may not be as good for BD CPU's.
  24. kk thanks for all advice ill get the cheaper one i linked now. thanks djd
