Heatsink Install Help

Hello

I need help, I got an Athlon x4 3.1ghz and a Thermaltake TR2 R1 Tt cooler. The cooler came with pre applied thermal paste, do I need to add different thermal paste to the cpu cap too? Or just install it as-is?

*also if you slightly touched the paste (just barely) will it effect it too badly?

If you want to use the pre applied paste don't add anything anywhere. If you want to use your own paste remove the pre applied paste. Touching the paste isn't good but if it's still spread evenly it should work fine.

No it wont. I normally install the heatsink with the pre-applied thermal paste.

What you must be careful about is the tightening of the screws to ensure good balance among all corners for even spreading of the thermal paste. The instructions usually will say to tighten screws lightly & alternately across all corners ( not tighten one screw all the way one by one).
