Dell Optiplex 745 - Help finding a card.

3.4ghz Dual Core
Windows XP

Exact specs

I have the second one, "Desktop".

I'd like to know what is the best card I can put into this system, as well as a mid-range option. Is a card with 1 GB okay? I believe it also has to be low profile and that limits my options. I know this machine is not a "gaming rig", but I would like the option to play some older games or newer ones at lower settings. I'm not too concerned with maxing everything out.

Thanks for any advice.

More about dell optiplex finding card
  1. a gt 440

    a gt 530

a gt 430 , if you want a low budget, low power supply card

oh wait, it's a dell, just throw it away
  2. a gts 450 is pretty mid range, and will do well

also a gts 250, but that might be too big, if you find a small version of it then use it

doesnt know what he is talking about

the Optiplex 745 desktop will easily take a HD 5670 512mb GDDR5 low profile card
they are getting a little hard to find
also a good option and easy to find is the HD 6570 DDR3 1gb

this is a great deal on a Sapphire HD 6570

I use the HD 5670 and the HD 6570 is similar in performance

this is what a HD 5670 in a Dell Optiplex 745 can

that is Crysis 2 DX9 1920x1080 Hardcore on my Opti 745

I also play Metro 2033 at 1920x1080 high setting DX10
check out my Youtube channel which is about modding the 745

    my specs are

    Core2Duo E4500 2.2 BSEL pin mod OC to 2.93ghz
    4gb Gskill DDR2-800 CL5 with heatspreader
Western Digital Velociraptor 160gb 10k rpm OS drive
Asus Xonar DG 5.1 sound card
ATI theater Pro 550 tv tuner
    cost total -$350

and fuggles you totally gave wrong advice
if you are smart just let the grown ups handle this
