How to determine if PSU isn't giving enough power? Low FPS in games

Hello,

I'm having issues in games where I am getting not optimal FPS in games where I should be (WoW, SWTOR) In wow I average around 55 FPS in cities with ultra, and no shadows on. Below will be my DXDiag, and according to many sources, my system should be averaging 90FPS EASY. In SWTOR I get around 25-30 FPS in populated areas and PVP which is also bad. I recently RMAed my GPU because I thought that was the issue, but it wasn't. No performance gains from the new one. Have done several System reinstalls and all drivers are up to date.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... Is my PSU

Any assistance would be appreciated. It has been very frustrating not getting the FPS I should in most games I have been playing. The system is also a year old, and issues like this have been present for several months now. I am currently running an OCCT for my PSU but I dunno what that will tell me.

You didn't need to include the DXDiag, just what you system spec are, so please edit that, so the post is more easily readable.

Anyway, your PSU provide 62A on the 12V rail (744W), so with a single 570 (looks like it is, but the way the DXDiag is formatted, it's hard to tell), you should be overpowered actually, not underpowered.

Regardless, too little power wouldn't cause poor performance, just BSOD's and instability. Not sure what your issue is, but the PSU isn't it.

Yeah I just swapped it out, and I'm getting the same performance with a different one with similar specs. However, I am getting very annoying Microstuttering issues in games such as World of Warcraft and Star Wars: Old Republic. SWTOR is poorly optimized and seems to work for some and not others. However, I've been running wow in 64bit mode and have been noticing sub 60FPS in populated areas , and stuttering issues very often.

I've RMAed my GPU, tested my PSU, I have 16gigs of Ram, so could it be that the CPU is the issue? My CPU is supposed to be averaging 90FPS on stock, and I never achieve that in populated areas. Any help is appreciated.

I honestly have no idea. With the specs of that system, I'd expect a lot more too. The i7 950 is still a good CPU, so I find it hard to believe that it's bottle necking a single 570.

My best guess is a software or driver issue. What resolution are you running, out of curiosity?

1600x900, 60 refresh rate.

I've downloaded and installed all drivers required. RMAed my board 3 times. Still same issues.

I've also unparked my cores and have tried with HT on and off.

Run Wow in dx11 mode (google it)
FPS in populated area often is liimited by your internet connextion and sometimes your HDD speed. Please test and post results of both of those.

Yeah, I really don't get it. I mean a SB or IB i5 would be better, but I still don't think the CPU is the issue here. I suppose you can try to OC a bit, if you have adequate cooling, just to see.

For microstutter, you could try disabling hyperthreading.

For low frame rates, you might want to check what your MSAA and other GPU/RAM-intensive setting is in-game.

How would I test my HDD? My internet speed is great from what I can tell.

I even took out some ram that had different specs (left 4sticks of 2x2 1600 in, and took out 4x2 at 1333). Did a memtest as well, nothing out of the ordinary there. I run Wow in 64bit in DX11. Averaging 60FPS in areas with just other characters hanging around, not even cities. Stutterering every 30 seconds or so.

OCing it did increase FPS and turning off HT. But still. Stuttering occured. Not sure what else to do. Might just give up and go to the geeksquad and get ripped off. Any other suggestions?

Are you running SLI ?
Turned off Vsync?
Turn off AA ?
Run CPUid to make sure your cpu and ram is running at the proper speeds? (set your power scheme to max first) Run a prime95 and compare your score to other i7's.
Which 570 did you get? Specific model number please.

Actually , looking at your dxdiag closer - it appears your running two monitors off the once card. Disable one monitor and check again. I bet thats the issue. a total of ~2700x1500 pixels is alot to process, even for a 570.

your dx diag crashed which means you have a hardware or driver issue somewhere.
update direct x and re run the dxdiag and take note if it fails again. go through all the tabs and it may be listed as a problem... post back your results. just the error not the full dxdiag report.

DxDiag Previously: Crashed in system information (stage 4) & DirectShow (stage 1). Re-running DxDiag with "dontskip" command line parameter or choosing not to bypass information gathering when prompted might result in DxDiag successfully obtaining this information
