Asked a similar Q on the CPU page but thought I'd shoot one over here. I have a Sapphire HD 6870 and:

Biostar N68S+ Motherboard - GeForce 7025, Socket AM3/AM2+ (95W)
AMD Phenom X4 9600B 2.3GHz
2 x Corsair 2048MB PC6400 DDR2
Thermaltake 600W PS

Wife got hte card for me for Xmas and it's bottlenecking. I played with the idea of spending on new CPU and Mobo but just dont want to spend the cash right now. Figure down the road I'll just do a new build. Anyways after looking and looking I read some info on here and Toms buying guide about the Athlon X3 255 3.3 Ghz. Its about 75 bucks and would fit in my cuirrent board. Do you think this would due?

Thanks!

There is always a bottleneck in a system regardless of what hardware is in it.
Your Athlon II X3 will somewhat bottleneck your HD 6870.
The question is to what extent.
The bottleneck probably will not be enough to harm frames significantly, but you will probably lose SOME frames.
You should be fine though.
